Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October 1967 and was the child of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She is the fourth Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather, a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Her father was a young man when he became interested in theater. While studying at Emory University, he performed at several shows in Atlanta. While stationed at Biloxi the Mississippi state, he was given the role of a soldier for the play of Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and in 1956 their son Eric Anthony was born. In 1957 the couple left the air force and Walter was enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter started his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. In 1964, Walter together with Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's television program called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they designed and funded. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou founded their own organization called the Actors and Writers Workshop. It lasted for 6 years. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also known as Lisa) and Julia (also known as Julie) at the time.
